Idrissa arrived in 2018 with his dance group “Sounds of Africa” for a performance. The event organizers mishandled his documentation and he was unable to continue the journey. Since then, he has been teaching Sabar dance classes and performing. The first episode of the series “Identities in Dance” addresses issues related to the dangers of “single stories” surrounding “African” and Islamism through elements of the protagonist’s daily life and excerpts from an interview. These issues are also explored and addressed through the intersection of contemporary dance and Sabar dance.
